This is a very mysterious piece and unknown to me!
To my knowledge this is an African Tribal Tall Wooden Figurative Box.
The wood is thick and heavy with a mottled painted surface. The sculpted head is the lid of this huge box that stands on four animal feet. The body is carved with two surrounding crocodiles and two carved figures to each side..
Very good antique condition, consistent with age and use.
