Higgins Orange Glass Pendant Necklace

Higgins Orange Glass Pendant Necklace

Description:
Higgins Orange Glass Pendant Necklace. The Higgins company was founded in 1948 in Chicago Illinois by Michael and Frances Higgins. They both met at the Chicago Institute of Design, and in the early years, they worked out of their small apartment. In 1957 they moved into a partnership with the Dearborn Glass Company of Chicago. They gave new birth to ancient glass fusing, which was the layering of enameled pieces of glass on top of each other. They were known for modernist designs. Michael died in 1999 and wife Frances in 2004. The necklace measures about 32 inches long. The glass pendant has several rings of color, from orange to yellow orange to a siena center and measures about 2 1/2 inches in diameter. The disc is encircled with a brass ring measuring about 3 inches in diameter. At the bottom center of the ring, are 6 paddle shaped dangles with orange glass beads in between each paddle. The cord is a waxed string, with 3 brass donut discs and small orange glass beads and brass tube on one side for an asymmetrical design.
