This 19th century large carved wooden mask with a chevron-pattern colored in ochre, white and black pigments, in the style of a ceremonial Kifwebe, of the Songye People, a Bantu ethnic group from the central Democratic Republic of Congo. Similar to the traditional Kifwebe masks, the piece has a long protruding mouth and is adorned with a large sculptural headdress or helmet embellishment.
