Wilardy Lucite Handbag

Wilardy Lucite Handbag

Description:
Wilardy Lucite Handbag. Wilardy was founded by Will Hardy, and started in the 1940s making jewelry boxes of a newly introduced product, Lucite. Buyers from Sax, who purchased the jewelry boxes, suggested that he add a strap to the top and make them into handbags. By 1951 it lead to over 64 designs in up to 14 different colors. Designs became more intricate, with adding gold and or silver flecks between layers of clear lucite, give dept and interesting dimension to the bags. The bag featured here is a signed Wilardy. The pattern is a black fish net design, with every other segment filled with gold fleck. The sides and front top and bottom are framed in brass. The bag measures about 6 1/4 inches wide by 3 1/4 inches high and 4 inches deep. The handle measures about 5 inches high. The bag is in excellent vintage condition.
