19th Century Manjus sideboard. C.1860-1880. Sothern Rajasthan, a young bride to be places jewelry in her dowry chest and fastens the lock on one end to secure her most treasured keepsakes. The chest is extravagantly decorated with detailed carving; carved horses symbolize the legend of this animal-the traditional means of transportation in the less arid Southern Rajasthan
